Mysuru: Urging members of Mysuru City Corporation and concerned officers of the local govt institutions to better utilize the popular housing scheme Rajiv Awas Yojana, District Incharge Minister V Srinivas Prasad expressed disappointment over poor management of various schemes, that have not benefitted the needy. “Despite, the state and central government providing popular schemes to the heritage city by showing extra concern to Mysuru, the local government has failed to make better use of the popular schemes such as JNNURM, JUSCO etc” he said.

The Revenue Minister was speaking after inauguration of the stakeholder workshop on ‘Slum Free City Plan of Action-Mysuru’, a Union Ministry of Urban Development sponsored programme for implementing Rajiv Awas Yojana organised by the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies of Osmania University, Hyderabad at Hotel Kings Court .
Expressing dissatisfaction over the poor work progress, the Minister stated that compared to other cities in the country, we have good water resources such as Cauvery and Kapila River, but it is unfortunate that we have failed to utilize it appropriately. Besides, there are many areas in the city where people leading rural life style by facing lot of challenges in the absence of basic facilities like water, road, shelter etc. Popularly, Mysuru is being called Palace city by reflecting its ancient charisma, but only the Mysurian knows the real situation, he underlined the problems of people struggling to meet basic essentials.
Explaining about the housing scheme Rajiv Awas Yojana, the minister pointed out that we need to attract more tourists by making Mysuru city slum free by ensuring basic facilities like good transportation, drinking water supply, better drainage management, health, education, community centre etc,.
Success of every govt programme depends on the Corporator’s involvement, and tey must give suggestions to implement the scheme in an effective manner, the District In charge Minister motivated Corporators to make better use of Rajiv Awas Yojana in their respective wards.
Briefing about the scheme, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner C G Betsurmath stated that under the Rajiv Awas Yojana, a beneficiary will be offered Rs 5 lakhs for constructing house, in which 50 per cent of the fund allotted will be funded from the central government and 40 per cent from state government. Only the rest which amounts to 10 per cent of total cost which amounts Rs 50,000 has to be paid by the beneficiary.
Mysuru City Corporation and Slum Clearance Board will be implementing this scheme.
Total 2800 houses sanctioned to Mysuru under Rajiv Avas Yojana, whereas 700 houses in K N Pura in Narasimharaja constituency, 1329 households in Krishnaraja constituency, 655 households in Chamaraja constituency. Total cost of the project is Rs 2798.28 crores, the commissioner explained.
