Bangalore:In an unexpected development, the 9th ACMM Court has declared that serial rapist and dreaded killer Jaishankar (36), who last month escaped from Parappana Agrahara prison and was later capaured, should continue to receive medical treatment and is not “medically fit” to be sent back to police custody.

The decision was made following a request by the Parappana Agrahara police to take Jaishankar into their custody. At present, Jaishankar is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital for injuries sustained during his brazen jump from the 30-foot outer perimeter wall of Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. When he was tracked down by the police, five days after his escape, Jaishankar reportedly had grave injuries on his lower back, knees, and legs.

Security is tight in and around the hospital ward where he is currently being treated, said sources, adding that he is currently in the custody of the City Armed Reserve (CAR) personnel.

Prison authorities said the nature of his injuries were such that he could not be treated at the prison hospital, and hence was sent to Victoria. The prisons department is footing the bill for his treatment. They maintained that Jaishankar would be brought back following his extended treatment.

“We have isolated a high-security cell for Jaishankar, where he will be kept under watch at all times. He will not be shifted to any other prison for any reason,” confirmed sources.

Jaishankar is wanted in connection with 26 cases of rape, murder, and dacoity in Bangalore Rural, Chitradurga, Hiriyur, Kadur, Molakalmur, Bijapur, and Tumkur districts in Karnataka; and Chennai, Dharmapuri, Hosur, Salem, and Tirupattur districts of Tamil Nadu.

He managed to escape from his prison barracks using a duplicate key in the wee hours on September 1. Scaling two inner walls and one 30-foot outer wall, he reportedly disappeared unnoticed. However, police traced the injured jailbird at an abandoned hut near Kudlu gate five days later, from where he was arrested and produced before a court.
