Mysuru: The two week training program in ‘Pharmacovigilance’ organised by JSS University in association with World Health Organization (WHO) began at JSS Pharmacy College premises on Monday.
The training course is aimed at developing expertise in the area of Pharmacovigilance (Medication Safety Monitoring) amongst professionals from health care sectors, pharmaceutical industries and regulatory authorities from Asia Pacific region. Twenty eight participants from thirteen different countries of Asia and rest of the world are participating in the program. Twenty six internationally known experts from Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Netherlands, Scotland, Morocco, Kenya, Bhutan and India are participating in the program as speakers and trainers.
Speaking after inaugurating the training program Dr. B. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, JSS University and President, Pharmacy Council of India, highlighted the importance of safety reporting in India and the need for strengthening the pharmacovigilance program of India in improving patient safety. During the keynote address Sten Olsson briefed about medicine-related harm and importance of Pharmacovigilance in accessibility, availability and affordability of medicines in low and middle income countries. The two week training program will conclude on January 27.
