Two-day state level Chess competition for visually challenged begins

Mysuru: The two day state level Chess competition for visually challenged organized by Sahana Charitable Trust for the Disabled began at Sri Pandit Narayanacharya Kalyan Bhavan, Chamaraja double road here on Friday.

“Over more than 130 promising chess players from various age groups are taking part in the competition; top 10 chess players in the event will get qualified to take part in the South India Chess competition. Participants from across the state including 35 girls are eyeing for top honors. The organisers for smooth conduct of the event have arranged 55 tables. There will be seven to eight rounds, whoever comes out with more number of points will be adjudged as winner” added Halappa Shetty, coordinator, Sahana Charitable Trust, Mysuru branch.

Earlier the event was inaugurated by Nanaya, General Manager, Spectrum Suits and Oasis, Mysuru. Naveen, Senior Manager, Though Focus Technologies, Mysuru and Sri Ram, social worker and spoken English trainer were also present.

On Sunday the organisers have arranged various competitions for visually challenged including Kannada braille writing and reading, English braille reading, singing film songs based on mother, drawing competition for the hearing impaired and debate competition on topic ‘Should politicians retire from active politics at a certain period’. Valedictory function will be held at 3pm.
