Traditional bullock cart race attracts thousands

Hebbale:  A folk sports event  comprising bullock cart race  attracted the attention of a large crowd during the  annual festival of Sri Banashankari Amma, the Grama Devathe of Hebbale village on the banks of River Cauvery on December 4, Wednesday.

Several people from Hebbale, Mysore, Mandya and Hassan districts participated in this folk sport with great enthusiasm. The event was organised by the local Maadari Yuvaka Sangha. The bullock cart race was held for a distance of 400 meters while the  cart race was held  for a distance of 100 meters.

To organise such races, is a tradition in Hebbale and  as many as 32 bullock cart owners took part in the competition. Thousands of people both young and old had gathered on either side of the roads to witness this scintillating race and encouraged the contestants.

Though some bullocks began to go amuck during the race and rushed towards the crowd, they did no damage. The first two winners were given eight gram and six gram gold respectively as their prizes.
