Tons of fish found dead at Kukkarahalli Lake

Mysuru: The pollution in the State has been taking a toll, especially on the water bodies, after the Yamlur Lake and the Varthur Lake in Bengaluru now the serene atmosphere at Kukkarahalli Lake in Mysuru has been blemished.

The Kukkarahalli Lake, which is visited by hundreds of morning walkers, was disturbed as hundreds of fish, some weighing between 5 and 8 kgs, were found dead at the Lake on Sunday morning June 28, emanating unbearable foul smell.

The morning joggers, who noticed these fish floating, immediately informed officials of University of Mysore, who are in-charge of maintaining the Lake.

Officials, who rushed to the Lake on information, swung into action and started clearing the dead fish.

According to eyewitnesses, birds of various species were seen feeding on these dead fish, thus exposing themselves to possible health hazards as they would be affected by the poison content in the fish.

Reportedly polluted water or sewage outputs are termed to be the reason behind the poisoning of the lake and in-turn the fishes however an exact cause has not yet been specified.

It may be recalled that hundreds of fish were found dead and floating in the lake in December 2014, as well.
