Three incidents in a single day, chain-snatching terror grips Mysuru

Mysuru: Chain snatching incidents in the city which have increased in the recent times are posing a serious challenge to police force which remains clueless at this stage as victims increase in number, mainly elderly woman. Three more elderly women lost their valuable gold chains as snatchers went on a chain snatching spree during the dawn in the city where euphoria is fast catching up.

Mysuru, known as the retired citizens’ paradise is going through sleepless nights as chain snatchers hoodwink police every time with new strategies denting their image.

In the first incident on September 26, snatchers entered the residence of one Begum in Hebbal and vanished with her 60 grams gold chain. In the second incident, an aged woman lost her chain weighing 60 grams in TK layout .In the third incident, Chudamani who had arrived from Bengaluru to visit her son in the city lost her chain weighing 40 grams during her morning walks.

Three separate complaints have been lodged in Vijayanagar, Saraswathipuram and Kuvempunagar police stations. Mobile and crime division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rudramuni has intensified searches at check points.

However, the ability of the police force to track down miscreants will be put to test during the Dasara period, failing which the city’s image may take a further beating.
