Mysuru: At juncture of time when our emotions have become plastic, here in a small village of Mysuru lives a goat that participates in all the funeral ceremonies in the village like a family member.
As per villagers, the goat has participated in over 500 funerals in the village over the last two years.

This goat, called ‘Devara Meke’ (Goat dedicated to God) lives in Belavadi village in Mysuru. It is so sensitive that it mourns every single death in the village and participates in the funeral ceremony from beginning to end.

Puttarama from this Belavadi village had bought two young kids (goat’s young ones) from a fair. Out of these two, one kid died.

Stuck in poverty, Puttarama vowed to offer the other kid to goddess Bethaleshwari if his financial condition improved.

As if his prayers were heard, Puttarama’s financial condition improved drastically with his farm yielding good quantity of mangoes and tomatoes.

As promised Puttarama takes care of the goat dedicated to the goddess like his own child.

Since two years, the goat has been participating in all the funerals happening in the village.

In the last two years, the goat has never been tied up and has been left free to roam around the village.

The pet goat is the cynosure of all the villagers.
