Mysuru: Ten day ‘Vastra Utsav-2016’ handloom exhibition cum sale kick started at JSS Urban Haat in Hebbal here on Friday. Artists from across the country including national award winners are displaying their products.
Speaking after inaugurating the expo Umakanth, Joint Director, JSS Technical Education division who was also instrumental in setting up of JSS Urban Haat in Mysuru said, “For the past many years, JSS Urban Haat is really providing good platform for artists to display their products. Really the purpose of setting up of Urban Haat has served the purpose. It’s nice to see that artists are selling the products directly to the customers instead of using middle men to get their business done. Artists not only from across the state but also from across the country including national award winners are taking part in the expo.”

The purpose of organizing this Utsav is to encourage weaver’s and Artisans, local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Stree-Shakthi sanghas, Khadi Gramodyoga, local Small Scale Industries (SSIs) as well as cottage industries to sell their products by providing a suitable marketing outlet. There is also discount on some of the products. More than 100 artists from across the country are displaying their products. The major attraction in the expo is different varieties of saris including silk saris from across the country. Apart from silk saris there are kurtas and dress materials. Entry to the expo is free for the public and it will be opened between 10am and 9pm. The expo will conclude on August 7.
