Teaching posts in great demand in University of Mysore!

Mysuru: University of Mysore notification to fill over 200 teaching posts has attracted those working in abroad especially, in life science subjects. It is learnt that many knew about the notification earlier and have come back to Mysuru to try their luck. The forthcoming seventh pay commission attracted many to try their luck in teaching profession; once the seventh pay commission is implemented, the professors who are getting Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 lakh will get more than Rs 4.5 lakh.

It will be an uphill task to the recruiters as aspirants will not only coming from across the state, but also from abroad who are pursuing teaching profession in various institutions and universities. In the notification, there are nearly 30 posts related to life science subjects, but for each posts there will be more than 100 aspirants. It might be almost twice the number in arts subjects.

On an average, more than 50 candidates come out with PhD from the University of Mysore life science department every year. After nearly ten years of notification for teaching posts, there will be more number of aspirants for each subjects and it will be a tough competition for the aspirants. Almost for the past two years, there were rumors that there will be notification regarding the teaching posts in University of Mysore and hence keeping this in mind, many who were working abroad especially those teaching life science subjects which includes microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology and zoology have already come back and many are expected to come in a few days time.

Speaking on anonymity, one of the aspirants for teaching posts who had earlier worked as an associate and even as an assistant professor in various foreign countries said, “It’s almost after nearly 10 years, they have called for teaching posts. We knew that there will be notification for teaching posts in the University of Mysore and hence came to Mysuru a year ago. The proposed seventh pay commission has attracted more people to teaching profession. Once the seventh pay commission is implemented, the salary of teaching posts will be enhanced. Assistant Professors who are receiving Rs 70,000 now, will get more than Rs 1.2 lakh, Associate Professors who are getting Rs 1.10 lakh will get more than Rs 2 lakh and Professors who are getting Rs 2.5 lakh will get more than Rs 4.5 lakh. The salary is even more than that of IAS officers. It’s not only me, but many of them who were teaching abroad, including US and UK have come to try their luck”.

The applications for various teaching posts have been invited and the last date to submit the filled in applications is July 27.
