Mysuru: A physical education teacher was arrested for kissing a class 9 student of a private institute in north Mysuru. The teacher was arrested after the girl’s parents filed a police complaint on Tuesday January 13.

The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Surendra, of Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district. Reportedly he was arrested for kissing the 15-year-old girl when she was playing with her classmates on the school campus in Kurimandi locality during the physical education period.

Narasimharaja police arrested the teacher at noon Tuesday, and booked him under various provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

Inspector Gajendra Prasad said, “After his arrest, we checked his background to find out if he had any past criminal record. So far, we haven’t found anything against him but have continued the probe. Surendra was handed over to judicial custody after the initial probe.”

City police have taken up a case against private school secretary Vishwa Aradhya and headmistress Ayesha Jabeen for not informing police about the incident. Police said though the girl had informed them about the incident, they tried to suppress it, fearing it would defame the school. The secretary and headmistress, too, were booked under Pocso Act 2012 and the IPC.
