Mysuru: Rohini Sindhuri, who took charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of the Mysuru district on Tuesday, September 29, said that she has two major challenges before her- tackling the coronavirus crisis and organising the Dasara celebrations in the midst of the pandemic.

After offering special prayers at the Chamundeshwari temple in the morning, Sindhuri held a press meet where she said that Mysuru charts second in corona cases in the state, next to Bengaluru.

“There is a rapid increase in the number of corona cases in the district. The testing is not happening at the expected level. There is a need to increase testing,” she said, urging the people to go for testing if they suffer from any COVID-19 symptoms.

Speaking about the Dasara celebrations, the new DC said that it is a new experience for her.

“The Dasara preparations have been done. It is for the first time that I am a part of this celebration. I was the DC of Hassan when the Mahamastakabhisheka was held. The event had about 25 lakh people in attendance. However, this is a different challenge because what is ahead of us is the nada habba, that too amidst the pandemic,” she said.

Sindhuri’s appointment as the DC of Mysuru has made way for debate because her predecessor, B Sharath was appointed as the DC of Mysuru only 29 days ago. It is said that hike in the number of corona cases and the former DC not chalking out any plans to control the same led to his immediate transfer.

It is said that B Sharat had not even submitted the Dasara plan to the government, which had pressed for low key celebration this year.

Many others also say that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had reportedly urged Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to post Sindhuri to Mysuru as DC from the endowment department.

As per sources, Jagan Mohan Reddy, in 2019 had written a letter to the Centre urging for the transfer of Sindhuri to Andhra Pradesh so that she could head one of his ambitious government programmes.

Rohini Sindhuri, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, is known as an upright officer.
