Mysore : T.V. Mohandas Pai, President of Manipal Global Education Services, Bangalore has said  the basic concept of a university is harmed when separate universities are set up for every discipline.

Speaking after inaugurating the Foundation Day celebrations of the Mysore University on Monday July 28,  he said universities  are presently in  a haste to offer quality education of lower duration. This affects the very system of university education, he felt.

The report of the Commission led by Radhakrishnan  which was constituted by the first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is now losing relevance following the setting up of subject based universities. The higher education field of the nation will face major challenges ahead and there is a need for a serious debate on university education, he added.
