Mysuru: Indore has been ranked as the cleanest city in India while Gonda in Uttar Pradesh has been ranked the dirtiest among 434 cities. Mysuru in Kartanaka, which topped the list in the 2015 and 2016 survey, has slipped to number five in the list while Tiruchirapally in Tamil Nadu gets the sixth rank, followed by New Delhi Municipal Council at number seven. Union UrbanDevelopment Minister M Venkaiah Naidu announced the results today.

There was a lot of expectation from people that Mysuru will retain cleanest city tag for the third consecutive year, especially Mayor Ravi Kumar was very much confident that he will receive the award on Thursday. But on Thursday, when Venakaiah Naidu announced the results, to everyone’s surprise Mysuru with overall 1744 marks slipped to fifth place while Indore who did well in citizen feedback and individual toiletwise stood first.
After receiving the award in Delhi, speaking to Newskarnataka Jagadeesh, Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation said, “When compared to last year the marks is almost the same. Last year, we got 1749 marks while this year we got 1744 marks. We lost marks in citizen feedback and construction of individual toilets. Actually, we should have constructed 450 individual toilets but we just managed to construct 250 toilets. In citizen feedback, the people didn’t take part large in numbers. In Indore, more than 50,000 people took part in the citizen feedback while in Mysuru just 1000 people took part in the citizen feedback. In days to come, we will try to work on these lines and try to do much better. But still I am happy that we are in top 5 in the country. On this occasion I also want to thank the untiring effort of Pourakarmikas”.
Mangalore city which was in top 3 last year, slipped to 63rd spot this year !
