Nanjangud: Vehicular traffic on the ever-buzzing Mysore-Nanjangud road was disrupted for hours yesterday as a sugarcane laden truck was parked on the road near Devaraj Urs road bridge built on River Kapila after its two tyres got punctured.

It is reported that the truck (CRT-8747) which was overloaded with sugarcane to be taken to Bannari Amman Sugar Factory came to a grinding halt on the road at about 4.30 pm after its two rear tyres got punctured and stopped on the busy road leading to disruption of traffic.

This forced the Police to deviate the traffic to clear hundreds of vehicles which had been stranded.

Most of those who bore the brunt of the traffic jam were thousands of week-end revellers who visited Biligiriranga Hills, Bandipur and other places.

The driver of the over-loaded truck, who made a futile bid to replace the two punctured tyres with the help of jack fled the scene and Police had a tough time in regulating the traffic.

Despite the traffic jam triggered by the truck, the Police managed to make way for an ambulance carrying a patient to K.R. Hospital in city, which was appreciated by all those present.

Assistant SP Prakash, Circle Inspector G.S. Raghu, SIs Chethan, Nataraj and others were present at the spot till normal traffic was restored.
