Mysore: Intensifying their protest against the University of Mysore’s (UoM) New Semester Policy, thousands of students from various Degree Colleges across the city, under the banner of Mysore Vishwavidyanilaya Vidyarthigala Horata Samithi, staged a massive demonstration in front of the Crawford Hall on Saturday September 20.
The students, after boycotting thier classes for the day, assembled in front of the Crawford Hall and urged the University to drop the new semester policy. They claimed that the new policy may force students to wait for a year to write supplementary exams if they fail in any subject.
Under the present system, there is a provision to write supplementary examination once in six months. The new semester policy may deprive this opportunity to students, stated a memorandum submitted to University.
“Students from various Degree Colleges have been protesting against the new policy for the past several days. Our pleas to the University authorities to drop the policy have yielded no results,” the protestors claimed.
Also, the University has not bothered to hold talks with the students in this regard; they alleged and demanded dropping of the new policy and continuation of the old one.
AIDYO, AIDSO, AIMSS and other student Associations extended their support to the stir.
