Mysuru: The district came to a standstill in wake of the bundh called for in response to the SC directives to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. It was total bandh across Mysuru district; especially in the city none of the shops including petty shops were found open. The normal life was thrown out of gear due to day long bandh called by various organsaitions on Friday.
Roads across the city wore deserted look. Keeping in view the law and order problem the school and colleges have been shut. Almost all companies have declared a holiday. Even taxis and cabs remained off road in response to the bundh. Banks, shops, markets, malls, hotels, bars, pubs, eateries, restaurant, theatres and petrol bunks were also closed. Mysuru Industries Association too supporting bandh declared a compensatory holiday today so that employees would make up by working during the next weekly holiday.
The protesters were seen in their vehicle shouting slogans against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha and calling state government to remove state legal team head Fali Nariman who failed to fight for justice for Karnataka in Cauvery water related issues.
Due to Supreme Court order on Monday, the state began releasing 15,000 cusecs of water daily from early Wednesday from its reservoirs across the river basin for 10 days protest and demonstrations by farmers, traders and the youth in the Mysuru region. Elaborate security arrangements have been arranged at prominent thorough fares across the city.
