The Music University vice-chancellor Dr M Basavanna arrived at the pedestal to welcome the gathering before the inaugural, said that the University has been striving to organize worthy programmes within limits. It has been celebrating Valmiki Jayanti, Buddha Jayanti, Kanakadas Jayanti etc, but expressed his displeasure over not celebrating Basavanna Jayanti, when University vice-chancellor Dr Hanumanna Nayak Dore who was presiding the celebration, reacted that he has nothing against celebrating Basava Jayanti, but he blamed Dr Basavanna for lack of co-ordination.
Meanwhile, Dr Basavanna said that he has nothing against celebrating Basava Jayanti instead alleged lack of co-ordination of Dr Hanumanna.
After a shortwhile, Dr Hanumanna said, “You (Dr Basavanna) are anti-Dalit and known to be quarrelsome.” Dr Basavanna in turn said, “You are of unsound mind, donot talk undemocratically,” said Dr Basavanna and continued his welcome speech. As Dr Basavanna was continuing his speech, Dr Hanumanna interfered, reminding the former that he has forgotten to mention his name in welcoming and tried to get manhandle, when Mysore University vice-chancellor Professor K S Rangappa and University staff tried to calm both of them.
After this incident, when litterateur Professor Kale Gowda was delivering keynote address, Dr Hanumanna collapsed on the ground while trying to get down the dais. He was rushed to Apollo Hospital at once.
