Mysore: State president of Akhila Karnataka Teachers Associations Union, K C Puttasiddeshetty said that Kannada-medium schools started before 1994-95 have not been getting grants from the government, while some teachers have been working without wages for the past 25 years.
“Budgets have earmarked grants, but still there is delay in sanctioning them to schools,” he said.
Puttasiddeshetty attributed the delay to administrative problems. “Teachers and staff are being exploited by the government. In the last cabinet session, the education minister promised the grants, but only 1,150 schools were given that. But 600 schools, including 96 primary schools, and 12 PU colleges, are yet to be granted,” he added while speaking to the reporters,.
The union urged the education minister to sanction the grants to the schools on September 5 (Teachers Day), failing which they will stage a protest in the coming days.
