Spurt in crime against women: BJP asks Home Minister to quit

Mysore: The Mysore city district unit of the BJP  has demanded the immediate resignation of Home Minister KJ George  owning moral responsibility for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and for his failure to efficiently handle the home  ministry.

In a memorandum submitted to the state Governor, the party has said that the crime against  women and children has seen a spurt in the state. It pointed out that 525 rape cases were registered in the state from January to June this  year apart from 2357 sexual harassment cases and 1522 dowry cases.  The situation is such that women are feeling insecure, the memorandum said and blamed the inefficient functioning of the Home Ministry for the same.

The president of Mysore City BJP Unit addressing the protestors alleged that he minister had  failed in taking the Police Department into confidence on various issues and even referred to the ADGP Ravindranath case.

Moreover, rape and chain snatching cases have been on the rise in the Home Minister’s home constituency itself and the State government has failed in preventing such cases, he said.

If the Home Minister does not quit on his own, then the Chief Minister should drop him from the cabinet, the party has demanded.
