Mysuru: The city’s noted snake rescuer, wildlife conservationist and Ward number 17 Corporator Snake Shyam broke his own record in snake catching, by netting his 29,000th snake today, coincidentally on World Earth Day!

Snake Shyam is a household name in the city. His earnestness to save snakes and conserve nature is extra- ordinary.  This is evident after interacting with him and availing his services.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, on his 29,000th snake  catch,  at the house of Dr Shridhar, Vathsalya Hospital here,  he said, “the indigo snake is inextricably linked to the ecosystem in which it has evolved. But the last century and a half of human development has seen the longleaf pine ecosystem become increasingly degraded and fragmented, with much of the forests’ historic range converted for agriculture and urban development. There is a need to conserve wildlife and mother earth. We all must take a resolution to save the earth which in a few years may have to face severe problems mainly because of the globalisation.
