Mysuru: “Every year, we plant lakhs of saplings by spending crores of rupees during World Environment Day, however once the function is done they are orphaned and no one wants to maintain or care for them.” said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after the inaugural of Centre for Women Empowerment in Vijayanagara Second Stage on Sunday.
In his presidential address, the CM said, “Protecting the environment is social responsibility, and the entire society must work on it rather than only expecting works to be done by the government or organizations”.

He further said that destruction of environment will destroy entire mankind and all living being in the earth. Pollution of environment causes to increase diseases and protecting environment should start from every house to ensure better health for all, he lamented.
Meanwhile, he accused forest Department for failing to protect saplings. About 75 per cent of plants which planted by the department is spoiled due to lack of preservation methods and the authority doing their job for the sake of routine.
The CM urged women organisations to plant trees and conserve for contributing to avoid climate changes. There are total 1,40,000 women organisation are active in state, and about 20 lakhs members are benefiting government policies. The number of members has to be increased on the view of ensuring social obligations. The government has established separate authority to protect lakes in state to save underground water sources, he underlined.
