Mysuru: A young one of a monkey that was rejected by its mother has been living in Mysuru Zoo. While it craved for mother’s love, a monkey doll was given to the infant by the zoo authorities. Till today, the little infant treats this stuff toy as its mother!
On April 14, a monkey gave birth to an infant, but instead of cuddling the infant, the mother not only used to refuse to feed the new born, but also used to assault it.
Seeing that the mother was posing threat to the new born, the zoo authorities took the infant away. They then handed over a stuff toy to the infant and over the last few days, the young one has been embracing the monkey doll for love and affection.
The infant has already bonded so well with the stuff toy that when the zoo authorities bottle feed the infant, it needs the stuff toy around.
Zoo Veterinarian Ramesh said that Diana, the monkey living in zoo had given birth to an infant last year and even then she had behaved in the same manner. She grew so aggressive that she had hit the infant on the ground and killed it the last time.
Hence this time, the zoo authorities took the infant away when Diana continued to act in precarious manner.
Separate staff have been appointed to take care of the six-day-old infant, which is now being fed every three hours.
