Mysore : Rotary Mysore North and the forest department felicitated the world famous Saalu MaradaThimmakka and her adopted son B T Umesh for dedicating their life towards environment at JSS law college Mysore.

Before the program she visited the Rotary Nagar in the outskirts of Mysore and planted a few trees.
In the program she shared her long 70 yrs experience in saving trees and environment. She said that trees should be saved and more should be planted to avoid global warming and to get good rain, because unscientific growth of cities and human greediness is affecting Mother Earth.
She said that her severe financial constraints throughout her life had not prevented her from saving trees. She says trees are her kids, and she still wants to look after them till her last breath.
Speaking to NK, B T Umesh said sadly that the Govt. of Karnataka has disrespected his mother by neglecting the work done by her. She has been conferred with nearly 40+ awards including National and International and yet she is depending on the paltry Rs 500 pension given by Govt. Students of primary schools are studying lessons that describe her work, yet people are misusing her name and making money he alleged. He said a case had been lodged in this connection in the past.
He said that he wished and hoped that Saalu MaradaThimmakka would be given the honor to inaugurate the Dasara Event, but the Government has shown no interest at all. A similar proposal two years ago was buried in political one upmanship. He also said he was inspired by her and he has been working for betterment of environment. He mentioned that earlier she had requested a labour Hospital in her place Hulikal, Madgitaluk but still that request is in pending. He also castigated the media for using her name when they don’t have news and dropping her when their purpose was fulfilled. He said that justice should be done for her unselfish work done for mother earth.
Manjunath Y R President Rotary Mysore North, S APrashanth, Secretary and Vijay Kumar DRFO were present in the function.
