Mysuru: People were cheated of lakhs of money here at Saraswathipuram after they were sold fake ‘Kalasams’ (rice pullers). A group of fraudsters are said to have carried out this racket.
The cheaters are said to have first selected innocent and gullible people and then collected huge amounts by selling them rice pullers on the pretext that the ‘Rice Puller’ will bring them prosperity and wealth.

Those selling the Kalasams would strew rice around the object which would then draw the grains (hence the name rice puller) as a magnet would attract iron filings which were mixed with the grains. Citing this as a miracle, conmen would sell the artefact for lakhs.
Ten inter-state fraudsters have been arrested by Saraswathipuram police on charges of cheating people in such rice-pulling rackets.

In July 2015, a couple who was fooling the public with these Fake rice pullers was arrested.
