Mysuru: Vehicular traffic on the Mysuru-Nanjangud Road came to a halt for over an hour on Monday, as more than 100 women and residents of Gowrishanakaranagar staged a ‘Rasta Roko’ (Block Roads) protest.
To display thier agitation the protestors carried empty pitchers and blocked the road demanding immediate supply of drinking water. The further accused the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) of failing to ensure proper water supply for the past 15 days, thus causing inconvenience to them.
MLA M.K.Somashekar and Vidyaranyapuram Police, who rushed to the spot to persuade the protestors to call off the stir proved futile, as the agitating women refused to budge.
The protest was however, withdrawn after MLA Somashekar promised to take up the issue with KUWS&DB official.
Addressing the protestors, the Krishnaraja MLA said that he would take steps to ensure proper water supply to the area in the next two days, following which the protest was withdrawn.
