Mysuru: Taking a cue of lesson from the recent incident of a railway employee swindling over Rs 65 lakhs, the Railway authorities are now mulling over engaging non railway professional agencies or private agencies to suggest and reform the software and information system in the department so that such incidents do not occur in future.

An employee of the Bengaluru East Railway station had used Rs 65 lakh of the department’s money for his own purpose. The misappropriation came to light during the audit and the accused was instantly nabbed by the Railway Protection Force.

As per sources, this is not the only incident where an employee had swindled the money of the railways, but it is just that this incident was reported while many such incidents have not come to limelight. Hence to tighten the system across South Western Railway, AK Gupta, General Manager, South Western Railway has decided to make necessary changes.

Gupta said that there are glitches in the system, which has left room for misappropriation to the tune of Rs 65 lakh at Bengaluru East Railway Station. “We have taken it seriously and we have system in place to recover the money. I am also thinking of getting help from private agencies to streamline our system so that such incidents do not re-occur,” he said.
