Mysore :An incident in which agitated public resorted to a lightning protest against the alleged high-handedness of the traffic police on the pretext of a drive against two-wheeler riders without helmets, was reported on November 9, Saturday near the KSRTC Depot Circle.
It all began after a two-wheeler rider sans helmet who noticed that the traffic cops were on an inspection spree, tried to escape only to be caught hold of by a constable. It has been alleged that the constable even kicked the bike rider resulting in his fall along with the bike. Further,it was said that the cops dragged him by his collar and asked him to pay penalty even when he was crying out of pain owing to the bruises suffered by him.
Public who noticed this, took the cops to task and resorted to a lightning protest. There was even an altercation resulting in a tense situation. Local MLA MK Somashekhar who was passing that way stopped enroute on coming to know about the commotion.When public complained to him against the high-handedness of the traffic cops, the MLA pulled up the cops and summoned DCPs MM Mahadevaiah, AN Rajanna,and other officials and asked them to refrain from threatening motorists or harming them during their inspection spree.
