Proposal to government for handicrafts training in rural areas

Mysuru: On the lines of Gujarat, where farmers especially those into agriculture are given training in handicrafts, a proposal to start similar training in Mysuru district will be sent to the commissioner of Industry, said H Ramakrishne Gowda, Joint Director, District Industry Centre.

Speaking after inaugurating the 11-day Gujarat Handicraft Utsav at JSS Urban Haat here on June 29, he said, “When Gujarat can come out with such practices which is really helping people especially those affected with drought and other natural calamities why can’t we take it up? I will bring this to the notice of our industry commissioner.” He also called upon the JSS Urban Haat officials to mix few local artists may be each from a district so that it will also serve as the platform to exchange ideas and thoughts.

C Ranganathaiah, Director (Project and Development), JSS Technical Education, who also spoke on the occasion said, “In coming days, more facilities will be added at JSS Urban Haat which is spread in nearly 14 acres of land. The facilities include food court, playing area for children and more facilities for the artists who stay in Urban Haat. We will take feedbacks from the artist and based on their suggestions and recommendations, we will take up providing more facilities. For more developmental works we have asked for financial aid from central and state governments.” He also mentioned that this year JSS Urban Haat will also be conducting six more expos.

“More than 50 master and creative artisans of Gujarat state are participating in this exhibition and will display, demonstrate and sell their rich art & crafts including Bandhani (Tie & Dye), Kutchhi Embroidery, Handloom Products, Bamboo Crafts, Jute Items,Coir Products, Agate Items, Navarathri Special Chania Choli, Clay Articles, Patchwork, Bead Work, Terracotta, Warli Paintings, Eco-friendly Jewellery Items”, added R S Gajjar, Manager, Indext-C, Gujarat . The expo will be open for public from 10 am to 9 pm.
