Mysuru: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to address farmers’ woes in the five years of his administration. According to National Crime Records Bureau stats, around 46 farmers are committing suicide every day across the country due to debts,” said Shabbir Mustafa, Secretary, Swaraj India.
“Agriculture is the backbone of this country. More than 65 percent of the population are from rural areas and dependent on agriculture. It has been 55 days since the Pulwama attack in which 46 jawans were killed, and even today the discussion regarding the incident is on in various media. Why is such concern not shown towards poor farmers? India stands first in the world when it comes to farmers’ suicides, where 46 farmers commit suicide everyday, followed by France where one farmer commits suicide every other day. Though farmers’ suicide is of great concern in the country, the central government has failed to do anything about it,” said Shabbir.
“No action has been taken against Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya who have not paid bank loans to the tune of thousands of crores, but bank officials harass poor farmers who have taken loan of just a couple of lakhs. Most of the programmes undertaken by Modi are Urban centric,” he added.
Shabbir also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a programmed RSS robot. “Hence we don’t want mission shakthi but we want mission mukti,” Shabbir said.
Speaking at the event, Badagalapura Nagendra, President, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) said “Modi in his previous general election manifesto had assured to implement ‘Swaminathan Commission’ but has not yet fulfilled his promise. He also assured that agriculture expenses of farmers will be lessened but in reality it has become more. Most of the promises he had assured during the last general election has not been fulfilled, hence, people have to think twice before voting. We (Raitha Sangha) will not request people to vote for any particular party but we request them to vote for the party who will look into the welfare of farmers and agriculture”.
