Mysuru: Despite their own limitations, Urban Co-operative Banks have been performing well,” opined President of District Co-operative Union H.V. Rajeev.

He was delivering the presidential address at the one-day special training programme for Chairmen, Directors and CEOs of all Urban Co-operative Banks in the District organized under the joint aegis of Karnataka State Co-operative Federation (KSCF), Bengaluru, Karnataka State Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks (KSFUCB), Bengaluru and Mysuru District Co-operative Union at Silent SHORES RESORT.
Regretting that the State Government was out to curb the authority of Urban Co-operative Banks by making repeated amendments to co-operative laws, Rajeev called for an organised movement involving all co-operators to take on the Government in this regard.
Stating that the Government’s Direct Tax Code had dealt a big blow to the co-operative sector, Rajeev urged the Government to understand the plight of co-operative banks and bring in measures that promote the overall growth of Co-operative Banks.
Reiterating his call for unity among all co-operators in taking forward the co-operative sector to greater heights, he emphasized on the need for Co-operative Banks to increase deposit collection and for cutting unnecessary expenditures and thus aim at improving their fiscal health and profits.
Earlier, C. Basavegowda, Director, Karnataka Apex Bank, Bengaluru and former MDCC Bank Chairman, who spoke after inaugurating the programme, said that with the advancement of time, several new issues are being included to the co-operative sector and stressed on the need for sensitizing all stakeholders on such issues.
Observing that the health of a Co-operative Bank depended on the efficiency of its management, he called upon all concerned with Co-operative Banks to work strictly under the law for ensuring the success of banks.
Regretting the tendency of co-operatives to be active only during the time of elections, Basavegowda observed that the elections were only a part of the system and called upon the co-operators to work unitedly, irrespective of the outcome of elections.
S. Chandrashekar, President, Karnataka State Credit Co-op. Societies Federation, Bengaluru, KSCF Director G. Madiwalappa, Managing Director K.A. Venkatesh, KSFUCB Directors K.N. Basanth, Dr. M.V.
