Mysuru: Gundlupet and Nanjangudu Assembly segments will be running into by-polls soon and the Congress is now leaving no stone unturned to retain the two constituencies.
In one such political engineering, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Digvijay Singh, on Wednesday met JD(S) Supremo H D Devegowda in Mysuru.
It is said that a group of Congressmen had already met Devegowda and urged him to extend support to the Congress so as to combat the BJP in Gundlupet and Nanjangudu and meeting between Singh and Gowda was an extension to this act. However, the details of the conversation between the two leaders is not yet known, but the meeting is certainly being viewed as an important one from political point of view. For the Congress, retaining power in the said constituencies is nothing shot of prestige issue and with the BJP going all guns blazing, the Congress had not option but to scouts of as many ways as possible to ensure victory.
Singh meets Geetha Mahadeva Prasad
Digvijay Singh, who is in Mysuru since Sunday, called on Geetha Mahadeva Prasad, wife of former minister Mahdeva Prasad, at her Kuvempu Nagar residence and also met former PM H D Deve Gowda at Government Guest House here on Tuesday.
It can be brought to light after sudden demise of Mahadeva Prasad who represented Gundulpet assembly constituency; Geetha Mahadeva Prasad is getting ready to contest the by-poll from Gundulpet assembly segment. Digvijay Singh interacted with Geetha Mahadeva Prasad for nearly half an hour and addressing reporters said that Mahadeva Prasad was a gentleman politician.
Meanwhile, Geetha Mahadeva Prasad said that her meeting with Digvijay Singh has boosted her morale as she is now gearing up to face the polls.
