Parking hassles:
Theft of parked vehicles has been a rising issue in the recent past. Press releases intimated that proposals have been sent to the government on adopting CCTV cameras to be able to catch the culprits. On being questioned about the whereabouts of the fine that is collected from traffic rule violation and whether or not this money is used to purchase cameras, government officials responded in the negative and said that the fine goes to the Government and cannot be used for such purposes. A separate grant is allotted that they will receive in due time.
In a separate incident, Mysuru City Corporation has received letters with regard to parking policies. There is a considerable amount of traffic interruption especially during peak hours due to the vehicles parked by the road especially by shopkeepers.
In response to this, the commissioner spoke about a ‘paid parking’ policy using apt technology in order to reduce road blocks. Footpath parking rows will also be checked and provisions will be made to cancel the licenses of vehicles that are parked on the footpath. E-verification will be used for this purpose.
