Mysuru: Protesters who tried to lay siege of Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam in Srirangapatna near Mysuru were lathi charged by police on September 9. Police also used tear gas shells to control the rampaging mob when the situation was getting out of their control.

Large number of farmers and protestors had gathered around KRS dam to protest against the SC verdict on Cauvery and subsequent decision of the state government to release water to TN. They tried to break open the barricaded area and attempted to lay siege to the dam. In order to control the mob police teams including those of rapid action force burst tear gas shells and lathi charged hundreds of protesters.

In the melee two farmers fell into a nearby dam canal. However they were rescued and the situation near the Brindavan entrance of the dam remained tense after the incident.

More forces are being rushed to the spot to prevent any further untoward incidents as tempers ran high in view of the protests.
