Mysore: Sleuths of District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB), on Sunday arrested four persons, cracking a four-month old case of the murder of an elderly home-alone woman Lakshmamma (83) in Kumbarakoppal in city on May. 23.
The nabbed have been identified as Manjunath, Bharath, Shivaraj and Shivamurthy, all residents of Hebbal in city.
It is alleged that the four had strangled Lakshmamma, while she was asleep on May 23, took away a pair of earrings, two finger rings and Rs.8,000 in cash before taking her body to Mandakalli Lake on Mysore-Nanjangud Road and dumping it there.
Sources at DCIB said that Manjunath, the main accused, who was a tenant of the deceased, targeted her as she was always found wearing jewels. However, the accused realized that most of the jewellery worn by the murdered woman were fake, except for a few items which were recovered when the accused tried to sell them.
Manjunath, during interrogation, is said to have confessed to the crime including shifting the body to Mandakalli Lake and dumping it there.
