Mysuru: As many as 15 cows have died in the past 20 days after eating poisonous garbage being dumped at Bandipalya on the outskirts of the city on Mysuru-Nanjangud road.

Garbage includes waste materials, expired tablets, injection tubes, paper bags, empty juice bottles and medicines which turn poisonous on exposure to vagaries of nature and the situation in areas like Gowrishankaranagar encompassing Chamundi Hill.

Residents of Bandipalya are also highly distressed as unscientific dumping from other areas in their area continues.

It is reported that residents of Bandipalya and Gowrishankaranagar, who depend on animal husbandry for living often leave their cows in the open fields where these materials are dumped and unaware of the dangers cows eat these things.

The residents pleaded the authorities to take stern action on these elements and also pay adequate compensation to those who have lost their cattle.
