Mysore:  Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Rame Gowda convened a meeting with the officers related to upgrading Mandakalli airport as necessary land was identified and to lay four-lane road linking Mysore – Nanjanagoodu.

DC Dr Rame Gowda said that the state administration has okayed four-lane works on Nanjanagoodu – Mysore Road, and the road works at a stretch of 8 kilometers cannot be executed as it comes within the limits of airport expansion.  It has necessitated devising alternative route in this regard, said DC Dr Gowda.

The state government has identified 174 acres, 145 acres and 23 acres separately which are in the custody of KIADB, said DC Dr Gowda.  The airport has a runway of 75 meters in length, while Spice Jet operates flights between Mysore – Bangalore, added DC Dr Gowda.

DC Dr Gowda further said that the airport extension is not feasible as train-tracks pass through on one side of the airport and the four-lane works are proposed on other end.  Its owing to this,  a proposal will be forwarded to state government in order to link Nanjanagoodu by four-lane works through Kadakola, Chamundibetta and Uttanahalli, said DC Dr Gowda.

DC Dr Gowda instructed forest department officers to lay chain-link barrier to restrain the wild animals from entering the runway, in order to allow smoother flight operations.

Mandakalli airport officer C Manjunat and different department officials were present at the occasion.
