Mysuru: In a shocking incident, a PhD student who was allegedly harassed by his guide for money, tried to commit suicide by jumping from the college terrace on Tuesday, February 23. However, the timely intervention of his lecturers and the police prevented a tragedy. The student had written a suicide note holding his mentor responsible for his death before the suicide attempt.

The victim is identified as Rinesh K Rajan, hailing from Trichur, Kerala. Rajan has been doing his research in Crime Science and Forensic Science from Mysuru University. He is being mentored by Principal of Maharaja Degree College Prof. Nagarajamurthy.

Rajan had complained to his friend that the professor was demanding money to get his PhD completed and obtain the certificate.
Learning that Rajan had leaked his secret, Prof. Nagarajamurthy allegedly began blackmailing him that he would not let Rajan complete his PhD research from any of the universities.

Beleaguered with this, Rajan wrote a three-page death note and also sent a Whatsapp message to his friends that his mentor Prof. Nagarajamurthy is responsible for his suicide before climbing the Maharaja College terrace.

The college lecturers and Lakshmipuram police managed in convincing him to change his mind. Rajan has filed a complaint against his mentor while the police have filed a complaint against the student for attempting suicide.
