Mysuru: The girls staying in the Post-Graduate Women’s Hostel – Block III, Manasagangotri, caught a Peeping Tom, who had jumped into the hostel compound in the wee hours of today. He was caught in the rest room of the hostel at around 1.45 am.

The youth, said to be in his early twenties, was also seen inside the same women’s hostel on the previous day but the hostelers and the security guards were unable to nab him. The security at the hostel was tightened after the inmates had complained about the incident to the Dean.

A Police complaint is yet to be lodged as the University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor is not in station. The youth has been kept under detention at Jayalakshmipuram Police Station.

It is said that the youth, when caught, responded to the questions of the hostel inmates and after further questioning, he produced a letter to the inmates.

Following the incident, around 250 PG students staged a protest in front of the hostel demanding more protection and security to the hostel.

Responding to their demands, University Registrar Prof. C. Basavaraju and Student Welfare Dean Prof. Rudraiah, who arrived at the scene, assured the students that the compound around the hostel would be fenced, the windows fitted with grills and the work on the same would start from tomorrow (Mar. 12). He also assured the students that the security would be increased with immediate effect.

The students also complained that the Warden of the hostel had not responded properly when they complained about the incident and that the Assistant Dean allegedly accused the girls of bringing boys into the hostel.
