Mysuru: Paper and Audit Legislative Committee led by MLA Sa Ra Mahesh held a review meeting with University of Mysore officials at Crawford Hall here on Tuesday.

During the review meeting the committee members asked the UOM authorities how they have utilized the given funds and what are the problems faced by the University.
Rajanna, Registrar, UOM made use of the opportunity to bring to the notice of the Committee certain problems including lack of teaching and non-teaching staffs. “The committee during their stint at Crawford Hall, asked us how we are utilizing the grants and with regard to some confusion related to appointment of temporary staffs. We have given clarifications on matters raised by them. With regard to recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staffs the committee assured that the permanent Vice Chancellor for the university will be appointed by the end of this month and assured to bring the others issues to the notice of government for further action,” Said Rajanna.
“Though the sanctioned teaching posts are 615, we are working with less than 300 teachers, when it comes to non-teaching posts the situation is still worse, out of 900 sanctioned non-teaching posts, just 250 are working. If the strength of teaching posts is less than 30 percent, there are possibilities that the UGC may not recognize the university and the grants from UGC to the tune of nearly Rs 100 crore every year will be stopped and it will be difficult to run the University. Hence keeping this in mind and welfare of the students, recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staffs should take place at the earliest” added Rajanna. Syed Akhtar, Principle Secretary, Higher Education was also present.
