Mysuru: Even as the memories of residents of Hanumanthamagar beating up two minors who raped a nine-year old girl in city and handing them over to Police on Nov. 6 remains fresh in the minds of citizens, an incident of a youth attempting to rape a minor girl in Giriyabovipalya coming under Nazarbad Police limits in the early hours of Sunday has now come to light.
The youth, who allegedly tried to rape the minor girl (who happens to be his relative) and now cooling his heels at Nazarbad Police Station has been identified as Naveen, 21.
It is reported that three persons of a family including the girl’s father and brother, who had come to Mysuru for a wedding on Saturday were staying at a relative’s house and the members of that family were away at Nanjangud.
The father of the girl went out of the house at about midnight on hearing the news of the death of a relative leaving the15-year-old girl and her 11-year-old brother at home.
Even as the minor girl and her brother went to sleep, they heard some one banging the door at about 1am. The girl, who thought that it was her father who was knocking the door opened the door only to find Naveen pouncing on her and attempting to rape her.
The girl’s brother, who heard her sister screaming for help, locked the house from outside and informed his father who was at a nearby house where his relative was dead.
It is said that the girl’s father, who rushed home, beat up Naveen and called for help from neighbours. In the meantime, Naveen reportedly escaped through the sheets of the roof of the house.
