Mysuru: As part of International Yoga day celebration on June 21, yoga rehearsal was held in front of Mysuru Palace premises here on Sunday. Over 2000 yoga enthusiasts, including students took part in the rehearsal.
The Mysuru district administration which has been aiming to set a world record by getting together nearly 50000 people on single venue is conducting two rehearsals prior to the main event. One of the rehearsals was held on Sunday, June 11 while another full-fledged rehearsal will be held on June 18 between 6am and 8am where more than 25,000 people are expected to participate.
On Sunday, for the inaugural rehearsal people from all age groups and communities took part in the event with lot of enthusiasm. District administration led by Deputy Commissioner D Randeep had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. The traffic towards Kote Anjaneya Temple that is just opposite to Mysuru palace was diverted from 5am to 8am. Randeep and MLA MK Somashekar too took part in the event that was held from 7am to 7.30am by performing 20 different asanas including Rukshaasana, Vajraasana, Shashanka asana, Sethubanda asana and Sheetali Pranayama.
Randeep said “For the inaugural rehearsal more than 2000 people turned out to perform various asanas. For the full-fledged rehearsals on June 18 we are expecting 20,000 to 30,000 people. To make this event a grand success there should be collective effort; support from all people including elected representatives, officials and various NGOs should join hands to make it a success”. Randeep also clarified that as the district administration is aiming for a record, it has taken special permission from police department for usage of drone for various documentation purposes.
