Mysuru: When a group of villagers knocked the door of Revanna’s house at Muddanahalli village of Nanjangudu to collect donation for the annual temple fair, very little did senior citizen Revanna know that his decision to not give donation could lead him to avenues of deep trouble.
In this era of modernisation, the villagers did not just decide to ostracize the family, but on Monday evening, a duo from village tried to rape his daughter.
The punishment that Revanna and his family got for not paying donation was ostracism. Not only was the family asked to shift to a hut on the outskirts of the village, but each and every household in the village was asked to cut off all contacts with the family.
Such episodes would look weird even in Bollywood flicks, but for Revanna and his family it was a bitter reality.
Even as Revanna’s son and daughter in-law decided to live in their house in the village, Revanna, his wife, his married daughter and her children shifted to the hut outside the village.
While the family thought that their traumas have ended, on Monday evening, two villagers took the hatred to another level. When Revanna’s daughter was returning home from work, she was molested by two villagers named Siddappa and Nanjundaswamy. Luckily, when she raised alarm, two workers of Electricity Board came to her rescue and shifted her to KR hospital.
But, some more struggle was in store for the family when neither did KR Hosptial nor did Cheluvamba Hospital admit the victim. The grieving family and the victim spent Monday night in premises of one of the hospitals.
It was only on Tuesday morning that the hospital authorities opened the hospital doors for the victim, when they sensed trouble after seeing Raitha Sangha and other organisation members entering the hospital premises.
Nanjangudu police have registered a complaint.
One may have to wait and watch if the district administration and police would take note of the situation and make justice to the socially barred family.
