Mysuru: With the sudden demise of actor Om Puri on January 6, the mood of International theatre fest “Bahuroopi Rashtriya Natakotsava,” has taken a slight beating.
Om Puri was supposed to arrive in the city to inaugurate the theatre fest at Mysuru. Om Puri had assured the organisers of arriving a day early at Mysore and had evinced keen interest in the festival.
With Om Puri’s sudden demise, the organisers have requested the State Minister for Kannada and Culture and well-known actor Umashree to inaugurate the festival on January 13.
Around 18 plays are lined up including four Kannada acts at four different auditoriums of Rangayana-Bhoomigeetha, Vanaranga, Kalamandira and Kiruranga Mandira during the festival scheduled between January 13 and18.
It may be recalled that veteran Indian actor Om Puri died on Friday morning, January 6, of a heart attack at his residence in Mumbai at the age of 66.
