Mysuru: A herd of elephants are creating panic among the locals in villages coming under Varuna assembly constituency (CM’s assembly Constituency) as forest officials have deferred their plans to drive them back into the forest.
The elephants which were found yesterday around Kuppegaala village (Village where CM’s primary school is located) have now moved along the banks of river Cauvery and are camping in Mahadevapura village.
The herd consists of two male and two female elephants along with a calf. The forest department officials have deferred their action of driving them back into the forest due to the presence of calf in the herd. In most cases the male elephants go on rampage if they sense danger to the calf in the herd according to Deputy Conservator of Forests Karikalan.
The police and revenue officials are assisting the forest department staff in the operations which are likely to resume this evening.
