Mysuru: The notification for 205 permanent teaching posts including 55 backlog posts for the University of Mysore (UoM) will be issued next month, said Rajanna, Registrar, University of Mysore.

Though there is a provision for in-charge Vice Chancellor Dayanand Mane to start the recruitment process, the authorities are waiting for appointment of permanent Vice Chancellor for the university to take up the recruitment of permanent teaching posts. However, Rajanna had no answer when asked why a permanent vice chancellor was needed to start the recruitment process.
Since 2007, UoM has not taken up appointment of permanent teaching posts resulting in a shortage of teaching staff in the university. Out of 615 permanent teaching posts, just 342 are filled and the rest are managed by guest faculties. It can be brought to light that K S Rangappa, Vice Chancellor of UoM demitted office on January 10. Even after nearly three months, the search committee formed by the government is yet to have the first sitting.
When K S Rangappa was Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore, notification for filling up 200 permanent teaching posts was invited but due to technical reasons, the government stopped the recruitment process. “Again the notification for 205 teaching posts including 55 backlog vacancies will be issued soon after appointment of permanent vice chancellor, that is by next month. Apart from permanent teaching faculties, approval has been given to fill 300 non-teaching posts for the university for which a notification will be issued later” Rajanna.
Government should be liberal towards recruitment: Dayanand Mane, Vice Chancellor of UOM said “The recruitment of teaching or non-teaching is not only problem in UOM but it’s the same in most of the universities across the state. The government should give freedom to respective university for recruitment teaching and non-teaching staffs. Due to government interference in the process, the things are getting slow and universities getting affected”.
