Mysuru: The Dasara committee invited noted poet Chennaveera Kanavi at his residence in Dharwad to inaugurate Dasara which begins on October 1.
Mysuru Mayor B L Bhairappa, Dasara 2016 welcome committee member Mysuru DC D Randeep, assistant commissioner T Venkatesha, secretory Puttasheshagiri, Dharwad DC S B Bommanahalli visited Kanavi’s residence ‘Chembelaku’ and invited him in a traditional manner.

Speaking after accepting the invitation, Kanavi said, “Dasara which was started by Gandugali Kumararama of Vijayanagar empire was continued by the Mysuru kings. Even after unification of Karnataka, the government has been celebrating Dasara in a meaningful way. I am glad to accept the invitation by the state government to inaugurate this year’s Dasara.”

Mayor B L Bhairappa said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed them to invite Kanavi to inaugurate this Dasara. Mysuru DC Randeep said that Dasara will be inauguarated on October 1 at 11.40 . Dharwad DC S B Bommanahalli said that it is a great moment for the people of Dharwad to see Kanavi inaugurate Mysuru Dasara.

Chennaveera Kanavi along with his son Shivananda Kanavi will leave for Mysuru on September 28 and inaugurate Dasara at Chamundi Hills on October 1.
