Mysore: Three girl children who were begging on streets of Mysore were rescued on Wednesday and handed over to Child Welfare Committee.
According to Uma Mahehswari of Kiriya Pushpa, an NGO, the girls were found begging for food and alms from passersby near Mysore Silk Factory. She altered the police attached to Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), who then rescued the girls and shifted them to government-run Girls Home.
SJPU police confirmed that the girls were forced to beg by their parents. The family does not have shelter and they are eking out a living by doing menial jobs and income generated from begging by the children. The kids never went to schools, they said.
CWC chairman N Venkatesh said they are yet to counsel the children about their situation.
