National level short film festival held at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on April 24

Mysuru: Cinerama ’19, a national-level short film festival, was organised by the Department of Visual Communication on April 24 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus.

Inaugurating the film festival, renowned director and producer of the Kannada film industry, B Suresha spoke of the growth of the Kannada cinema industry and recalled and compared the movies of his early days. He spoke at length on the importance of having clarity of thought about the story one is trying to convey, and the importance of knowing one’s target audience as a filmmaker. Suresha also likened cinema to a large ocean and said that the filmmakers need to acquire the skills to swim in it. Citing numerous examples, Suresha spoke of how even a small budget film can make crores at the box office.

“Keep dreaming, keep watching good movies,” was his advice to the young aspiring movie makers.

Following this, a 90-minute-long interactive, informative and rewarding session was conducted for the students where Suresha spoke about the nuances of filmmaking.

On the occasion, Suresha also inaugurated the “PixelKraft” exhibition of Graphic and Portfolio works of the final year students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Later, at the valedictory ceremony, chief guest Aindrita Ray, cine actor, gave away the awards to the winners of ‘Cinerama ’19’. The Jury members Ravi Shankar S, film maker and music director and Dr. B Shreekantachar, Producer I, EMMRC, University of Mysore were also felicitated on the occasion.

Br. Sunil Dharmapal, Director; Br. Venugopal, Correspondent; Prof. Vidya Pai C, Principal and Dr.Ramya K. Prasad, Chairperson, Department of Visual Communication were also present.

Prize winners

Top three Short Films: 1st place – BINDI (Director – Nikhil Sankar) Kochi; 2nd place – ZITA (Director – Kevin Karippery) Mumbai; 3rd place – UNARTHAL (Director – Balaji SBR) Coimbatore.

Best Titles (Special Category Awards): Best Editor – Aswin for the film UNARTHAL; Best Director – Nikhil Sankar for BINDI; Best Cinematographer- Sunil Karthikeyan for ZITA; Best Performer – Jithin Babu for the film POTHAYAN.

Best Titles (Special Category Awards): Best Editor – Pruthvi Raj for the film D.M.T ; Best Director – Zubin Paul for KEH DUN SHUKRIYA; Best Cinematographer- Harigobind Pachat for PARA-DISE; Best Performer – B.S Siddhartha for the film AGNIKUNJODRU KANDAEN.
