Bengaluru: The curtain is almost down on Nanjangud and Gundlupet assembly by-polls with voting coming to an end on Sunday. However, even as the poll results are awaited, the Intelligence report sent to the state government concludes that both- the Congress and the BJP, which are the main players in the by-polls will take home their share with one Assembly seat each falling into their kitty.

CM Siddaramaiah and senior Congress leaders start campaigning at Nanjangud constituency-1The report hints that it may be difficult for ruling Congress to retain Nanjangud, but it may win in Gundlupet with a comfortable margin.

This means, Dalit strongman V Srinivas Prasad, the BJP candidate and Congress rebel will taste victory in Nanjangud. However, the report states that his victory may be with a slender margin.

“Dalits and Lingayats have voted in favor of the BJP in this constituency contributing to Prasad’s victory,” sources said.

Prasad who had won this constituency as a Congress candidate in 2013 assembly election quit party in 2016 after he was unceremoniously sacked from the state cabinet, disturbing the equation between one time close friends-Siddaramaiah and Srinivas Prasad.

According to the report, in Gundlupet, the victory for the Congress is going to be a cake walk with massive voting from Lingayat and OBC voters. Geetha Mahadevaprasad, wife of sitting MLA Mahadevaprasad of Gundlupet was fielded by the Congress after untimely death of the latter.
